HARTFORD YOUTH SCHOLARS' PROGRAM:
High School & College Programs
Hartford Youth Scholars is committed to providing at least 10 years of support services to our Scholars. Our High School & College team understands that getting into a good school is a crucial first step, but long-term success requires sustained commitment from Scholars, their families, as well as continued support from Hartford Youth Scholars’ staff.
High School & College Programs are designed to help all Scholars who have completed The Collegiate Academy to excel academically in high school, participate in enriching extracurricular activities, and graduate from college, ready for a career.
Types of Support
ACADEMIC MONITORING
Each Scholar is assigned an HYS advisor who works closely to ensure the Scholar has transitioned and adjusted well to their new school. Advisors monitor Scholars’ academic and social progress, and will meet with each Scholars’ school advisor regularly throughout the school year.
VISITS
HYS understands the importance of spending time with Scholars to build a trusting and lasting relationship. Our advisors visit the Scholars periodically throughout the school year. Visits include weekends, as well as sporting and school events.
WORKSHOPS
Dealing with Change, Time Management, Organizational Skills, College and Financial Aid Search, High School is Over: Now What?, Leadership, How to Win an Interview, Common Application, College 101, and Reputation and Identity are some of the workshops offered to ensure that Scholars have competitive, well-rounded college applications.
COLLEGE GUIDANCE
Advisors provide Scholars and families with individualized college assistance. Services include SAT Prep, college research and tours, writing recommendations, essay assistance, scholarship and financial aid research, and summer planning.
SPECIAL EVENTS
Support Services holds special activities throughout the year such as community service projects, social events, educational trips, and class reunions so that Scholars can stay connected with HYS and one another.
COLLEGE TO CAREER PIPELINE
HYS collaborates with local corporate partners to provide career readiness workshops on various topics including resumes, cover letters, use of LinkedIn, presentation skills and internship success. Our corporate partners also provide summer and academic year internship opportunities for HYS Scholars.
